Test Results and Ratings
Why did this cupping set win the first place?
I don’t know anything about other models from this brand, but I am fully satisfied with this product. I really enjoy the design. It is compact, comfortable and reliable. And it looks amazing! I was completely satisfied with the price. Its counterparts in this price range are way worse. The product is very strong. Its material is stable and doesn’t crack.
Why did this cupping set come in second place?
I recommend you to consider buying this model, it definitely worth its money. The design quality is top notch and the color is nice. I really liked it. It is amazing in every aspect. It did even exceed my expectations for a bit, considering the affordable price. The material is pretty strong and easy to wash if needed.
Why did this cupping set take third place?
We are very pleased with the purchase — the product is great! It doesn’t squeaks nor bents. Looks great in my apartment. This price is appropriate since the product is very well built. It is inconvenient to use due to the size. I am going to get something different next time.
cupping set Buyer’s Guide
On my face I gently massaged the cups in an upward motion following the contours of my cheekbones and jawline. It was sort of painful to begin with because I wasn’t really sure what I was doing but after about five minutes I started to get the hang of things. I decided that I wanted to see what was going on inside the cup. I peeked through the see-through silicone and saw a bunch of skin being pulled upward into a big bright red knot. Not going to lie I almost lost my dinner, bad decision. It feels pretty good, like a deep tissue face massage but I wouldn’t recommend looking at it for very long unless you have a strong stomach. I was scared that this technique would leave marks on my face so I chose to do it at night, and when I woke up my face looked completely normal.
I was thrilled to wake up and see my results, I not only jumped out of bed but I sprinted to the hallway mirror. The amazing thing about cupping is that wherever your back is in the most pain, or your body has least mobility, you’ll be able to see it through the variance of the bruises. Although all cups are left on for the same exact amount of time, the area where your blood is the most “stagnant” (typically where you experience pain) will bruise the most. Take my back for example, I was in a car accident when I was in high school and it really messed up my right shoulder, the cupping kisses prove that by showing an extremely dark mark where I feel the most pain on a day to day basis. My back was pretty sore that day but it was bearable, wherever my bruising was the most extreme I felt the greatest discomfort.
When I woke up and saw my face I didn’t honestly think it looked any different from how it normally appeared. I decided since the redness went away quickly that I would try it in the morning that day. I went in with the same carrier oil I had previously been using, jojoba oil, and began working the cups in the same upward motion, spending about seven minutes or so on each section of my face. My skin was beet red but it disappeared within 25-30 minutes leaving me with a “I’ve been juicing for months” glow. I could SEE the difference. My skin tone looked more even and some superficial scars even appeared less shallow. At this point I wasn’t sure if cupping during the night or daytime had the most benefits so I decided to swap back and forth each day.
Oddly when I woke up on the third day my back was the sorest it has been in a LOOOONGGG time. I was in serious pain. But it was good pain! Because that meant the cupping was working to heal the inflammation inside my body and increase blood flow to that affected area. I don’t know if it’ll be a long-term solution or not but I am feeling optimistic due to the results. I was also seriously exhausted which is apparently another weird side effect from cupping, a sign that your body is releasing built up toxins and that you need to rest and recuperate.
Back at it again with the facial cupping, I felt more secure in what I was doing at this point. I decided seven minutes was the perfect amount of time to work each section of my face; left cheek, right cheek, forehead, nose and chin. I noticed immediately after the cupping session my face looked slimmer, as if my cheekbones had greater definition, and I wasn’t mad about it. I began to wonder if the effects of facial cupping were temporary, I’d always see a glow on my face but I felt that it didn’t last more than a few hours.
The pain I was experiencing from the body cupping was fading away, I wasn’t really feeling the negative effects anymore at this point. My shoulder and back continued to feel less tense, so I was happy to still be feeling all of the positive effects from cupping (no tight muscles, less inflammation, etc.). I was still extremely tired though, I figured that meant I should continue to take it easy and get some rest and relaxation for the next couple of days.
I switched back to the daytime for my facial cupping routine, it was hard to squeeze it in before school since It takes about 30 minutes to do your entire face and 30 minutes for the redness to calm down. With an am class it can be hard enough to wake up for breakfast let alone facial cupping, thinking this is definitely something that will become a part of my night time routine at this point. I did notice that again, the texture of my skin appeared smoother and my face had a nice glow to it.
Today I was in almost complete relief from the negative effects of body cupping, there was no longer any tiredness or pain. I was more than ready for my next session and tempted to start one but read that its best to wait at least a week so your body can fully heal and be ready for the next round. My shoulder muscles still seemed pretty loose compared to their tight as a board average.
So, your board has some crook in it. Grab your pencil mark the down the edge. Note the high spots with a straight edge, then smooth it down with your hand plane. Keep a square handy, so you know that the edge is square to the face.
It’s not a fast process, but it’s very rewarding and much less expensive than buying a jointer.
Cutting Rabbets and Dados
Special planes can cut rabbets and dados. They are specifically designed to do these cuts and are not useful for general work. Hand planes for this kind of work are usually only purchased by the dedicated hand tool woodworker.
Most woodworking hand planes have a blade set at a 4degree angle in relationship to the base of the plane. Forty-five degrees is a compromise working well on both hard and soft woods. The blade is clamped at this angle in what is called the “frog.” I can’t tell you where that term came from, as I’ve not found any reference as to its origin.
Less risk of expanded areolas
Noogleberry and other breast enlargement pumps have been know to make nipples larger due to the suction on the nipples since the domes are placed over the entire breasts. There are tips and techniques that can be used to reduce enlargement of the nipples but if you are still hesitant, cupping might be an option.
With cupping, the domes are small and don’t require you to place them over the entire breast. The nipples never get any suction with cupping unless you purposely put them over the nipples though that is not recommended.
Massage the oil onto the breasts. Be generous but be careful not to over lube as this may cause an issue with moving the cups around your breasts. You will discover the correct amount to use as you cup more.
Squeeze the cup and place on breast. Let go of the cup. The cup should have created a suction and is now sticking onto the breast. If not, try again. Depending on how much you squeeze the cup, this will dictate the pressure felt on the breasts. If there is major discomfort, remove the cup and try again. This time, squeeze the cup less. If the opposite it true and you don’t feel much pressure or the cup falls off, squeeze the cup more before applying onto breast.
Once the cup is securely on the breast, slowly slide the cup around the breast. You might have to hold the breast tissue with one hand and slide the cup with the other. It is suggested that you move around the breast in the same direction as the chi breast massage or inwards motions all around the breasts. Similar to an inward spiral motion, avoiding the nipple area.
Another technique one can try is to not move the cup around. Just place on breast and leave on that spot for a few minutes. Remove the cup and move to another section of the breast to suction until you have gone all around the breast. This seems more time consuming compared to the technique of sliding the cups around the breasts but try both and see what works best for you.
By evaluating coffees in a comparative setting and with an inquisitive, reflective approach one can learn to identify the most essential flavor traits of coffees from different origins. The goal should be to build a reference library of flavors and taste sensations that can become a background against which one can examine new coffees. Over time a cupper will begin to associate particular flavors with geographical regions and different botanical varieties of coffee. Eventually, a phrase like “this tastes like a bourbon from the Santa Ana region in El Salvador” can have some real meaning. It is important to remember, though, that dogma has no place in coffee tasting. Every time I think I’ve got a region figured out, a coffee comes along that shatters my expectations. Keeping an open mind and sense of curiosity is absolutely essential to becoming an accomplished taster.
Why People Cup Coffee
The cupping process was conceived as a means for evaluating and comparing different coffees on a level playing field. Because the differences between great coffees can be very delicate, observations about the characteristics of those coffees (flavor, body, finish…) can be easily influenced by small variations that occur as part of most brewing methods. By eliminating some of these variables, a carefully prepared cupping allows the coffees being tasted to compete on the basis of their own intrinsic merits.
Some degree of scientific rigor is key to conducting a fair cupping. Measurements of water and coffee grounds should be precise, any grinding equipment should be flushed between cups to prevent cross-contamination, and the pouring of hot water should be done with great consistency. Time is also a factor; once the grounds are wet the steeping process is underway, and the coffee will undergo many changes in chemistry and flavor over the next 20 minutes.
It is very important to evaluate each coffee from the start of this cycle to the finish, so most cuppers have developed a protocol for managing this sequence of events to ensure that every coffee on the table gets equal treatment.
For casual cupping at home the protocols need not be so rigid, as the stakes are quite different. Cupping coffee at home can open you up to a whole new world of what makes coffee the special thing it is to many of us. You’ll discover flavors and nuances you never thought existed in a cuppa joe. You’ll learn to evaluate and categorize coffees that would do well in your own custom blends, if you’re a home roaster, or even if you’re buying a variety of single origin beans, and post blending them at home.
Tools of the Trade
When you’re cupping coffee at home, you don’t need to buy a lot of specialist tools, but there are reasons why specific coffee cupping tools exist.
For instance, many professional coffee cuppers like to use a specifically designed, silver plated spoon for cupping because the spoon’s shape facilitates the lightning fast ‘slurping’ action (described below), and the silver plating absolutely minimizes any potential flavor altering in the coffee samples (steel and other materials may impart other tastes, however subtle).
If you are considering buying more specialized tools for cupping, the SCAA does sell them to both members and non members.

Differences Between TENS and EMS Units
Both units use low voltage (microamps) electrical impulses to stimulate body areas. A TENS unit stimulates the nerve endings while the EMS unit stimulates the muscles. Electrical energy in microamps (μA) means that the TENS unit uses impulses from 50 to 1000 μA. EMS electrical impulses range from to 30 μA. This is technical electrical information that simply means this low amount of current is beneficial but is not similar to an electrical shock. The devices are beneficial for relief from acute and chronic pain and EMS units are good for muscles. Dual units are available and those with chronic pain use both for best results. Therefore, the reduction of pain using the TENS and the stimulation of muscles at the cell level provides the best of both worlds. You will want a professional to monitor you to be sure the electrodes are placed correctly and that you are using the proper signal. The electrodes vary with their placement with each treatment.
Pain that lasts longer than six months affecting about 100 million Americans can be mild or excruciating. It can be merely an inconvenience or totally incapacitating. It can be continuous or intermittent.
When you suffer from chronic pain, the signals stay active in the nervous system for months and sometimes years and have a toll on one’s emotional and physical well-being.
The most common complaints of pain are from headaches, joint pain, backaches, and pain from injuries. Chronic pain includes sinus pain, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and specific body pains of the neck, shoulders, and pelvis. Conditions of pain can occur from general and specific areas of nerve and muscle pain and develop into a chronic state.
There can be an ongoing source for pain, or it could have been triggered by trauma, and injury, or an infection. Some people can experience chronic pain without ever having any body damage or previous injuries.
The more you think about pain emotionally the worse it gets. The stress, anxiety, anger, and depression, to include fatigue, act together with the pain and decrease the body’s natural painkilling chemical known as endorphins in the brain. Relentless pain can overwhelm the immune system creating other problems.
Chronic pain symptoms never go away and they can be mild to severe. The pain is expressed as aching, burning, shooting and electrical. The feelings are those of soreness, stiffness, and tightness.
The things to consider are
TENS and EMS units were once only available through medical prescriptions, but now you can buy them unit online.
The home TENS and EMS therapy is a safe and effective method for treating pain without using pain killing drugs. They are now less expensive to purchase so anyone can affordably purchase them for pain relief for a variety of muscle and nerve pain issues. It sure beats paying a chiropractor or therapist for the same type of treatment.
Pregnant women, anyone implanted with a pacemaker, or anyone with seizures should not use either EMS or TENS without first consulting with their healthcare provider.
WHAT TO EXPECT
If you’ve been accustomed to buying whole bean coffee from a local roaster, online, or especially from a supermarket, you will most likely notice an oily sheen on your coffee beans. This can be due to either the very dark roast level or a marker of how much time has passed since the coffee was roasted. Coffee contains some oils, and darker roasts will produce more oils. Over time these oils will migrate to the surface, and eventually the oils will oxidize and become rancid. This migration can happen immediately on a very dark roast or over the course of a couple weeks on a Full City+ or Vienna roast. Either way, we consider it a bad sign.

Bigger woofers and better bass
These Bluetooth-equipped 4-inch woofers add some body to the bass range, but the dry midrange might be a turnoff for some. They do have Bluetooth though.
If the CR3s are unavailable, or if you need built-in Bluetooth, the Mackie CR4BT are a solid backup option. The model’s larger 4-inch woofers provide better bass response and they sound great in the treble range as well, but the speakers are held back by a thin-sounding midrange (where vocals and lead instruments live), and some listeners may notice some mild distortion. Bluetooth pairing is easy, but the wireless connection sounds thinner compared with the wired one.
For someone looking for better sound reproduction, even more connection options (like Bluetooth and an optical input), with desktop real estate to spare, the Edifier R2000DB pair is an excellent upgrade. Our panelists all agreed that they had a generally pleasant sound profile and especially excelled in the vocal midrange. Aesthetically, they owe more to classic audiophile bookshelf speakers than desktop computer speakers. The angled speaker front and choice of a cherry wood finish add welcome variety to the collection of black rectangles that permeate the category.
How we picked
Computer speakers should be easy to use and versatile, so we looked for systems that included an accessible volume control and a line input to connect to the audio output of a computer, phone, or other source. The volume control could be built into the front of one of the speakers or a separate remote control, as long as it’s easy to access. Extra features—such as Bluetooth capability, a headphone jack, or additional inputs—add to the overall value but are not mandatory.
How we tested
Wirecutter writers Lauren Dragan and Brent Butterworth joined me for the listening panel using an iPhone connected via an RCA splitter box as our audio source to easily switch between speakers. We discussed each grouping after listening blind, then revealed the models and factored in features and prices in order to make our picks.
With more inputs, outputs, and control features than most speakers, plus solid audio performance, we think the Mackie CRpair are the best active computer speakers for most people. Their sound profile favors the midrange and vocals, and they create nice open highs, though the small woofer size limits the low end. Their price makes them an easy upgrade for anyone looking for decent speakers for music, movies, or computer games.
The CR3s won us over with their versatility and accessibility, both of which are important on a crowded computer desk. The speakers have three input options. On the back is an unbalanced RCA input as well as a ¼-inch input that could be either unbalanced or balanced (TRS), depending on your source output and cables. These two inputs are shared. In addition, there’s a ⅛-inch TRS aux input on the front. This allows easy access for plugging in another temporary source, like a phone, without moving the speakers or struggling with blindly fumbling behind the desk searching for an input. Next to the aux in is a headphone-out jack that defeats the internal amp, meaning no audio signal will come out of the speakers when the headphones are plugged in. It doesn’t have Bluetooth built in, but you can add it with an affordable adapter or spring for the slightly larger (and more expensive) Mackie CR4BT, which has Bluetooth built in, but is only our runner-up because of a thinner-sounding midrange.
The powered speaker has a shared ¼-inch or RCA input and a speaker position switch that flips the channels of the speakers.
The volume knob located on the front of the powered speaker controls the volume whether it comes from the speakers or connected headphones. And though there’s a power switch on the back of the speaker, turning the volume knob fully counterclockwise until it clicks will turn off the speakers. We think this should come standard on every computer speaker. The less you need to access the back of the speaker, the better. One last feature that helps with cable management is a powered speaker position switch. This allows you to place the powered speaker on the side of the desk that is closest to your outlet and/or computer, minimizing the distance the power and audio cables need to run.
The CRspeakers have a nice, balanced midrange that supports vocals well without being too forward. The low end can get a little bloated and muddy as it approaches the 80 hertz lower limit of the speakers’ range. This isn’t too surprising with only a 3-inch woofer handling those frequencies. There is a nice openness to the higher frequencies, although Lauren said the highs were “a bit coarse” and Brent added they sounded “thin and a little soft on top.” But we all agreed that the Mackie pair sounded better than most in their price range.
MusicTech also liked them, finding that “the overall sound was open and transparent with a nicely airy treble” and that the speakers “offer sensible features for a range of uses.” Edd Harris of The Pro Audio Web Blog referred to their build quality, saying they “are exceptionally well built for such an ultra affordable retail price” and gave them a full five-star rating.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
As mentioned earlier, the sound reproduction does leave something to be desired. There isn’t a direct way (or an adjustable crossover) to add a subwoofer and take some of the load off of the woofers. Playing at high volume can also accentuate the coarseness of the high end.
There’s a ring of light around the volume control—in this case green. If you plan to watch movies on your computer in low light, this could get distracting. Similarly, the green rings surrounding the drivers aren’t the most subtle design choice.
First of all thanks for reading my article to the end! I hope you find my reviews listed here useful and that it allows you to make a proper comparison of what is best to fit your needs and budget. Don’t be afraid to try more than one product if your first pick doesn’t do the trick.
Most important, have fun and choose your cupping set wisely! Good luck!
