headphone stand Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy headphone stand, right? No!

Omega Wooden Headphone Hanger

Both functional and featuring a handsome design, this unique stand from Omega is certainly a stellar choice for anyone with discerning tastes. Measuring up at inches in height, the Omega Headphone Stand features a walnut finish that pairs equally well with wood and leather furnishings. It also fits most contemporary style headphones. And its smooth facade is sure to leave your most prized headphones without so much as a scratch upon them.

Like many gadgets, headphones could get a little cumbersome and messy. If you leave it on your desk often, it becomes an awesome contributor to your growing wire nest. A headphone stand may be a small apparatus but it makes a lot of difference in keeping your desk tidy and clean.

Having a designated storage space for your headphone keeps the clutter on your work or gaming space manageable. That’s one less heap of tangled wires to deal with. And it is a proven fact that uncluttered desks will keep you more relaxed and productive throughout the day.

LONGER USEFUL LIFE

A headphone stand will also ensure you get the most from your headphone experience. Having proper storage keeps your audio device in tip-top shape. You avoid broken wire and damaged earphone problems so your gadgets functions at its best for a longer period of time. Plus, you knock them off the desk and smash them on the floor less often when they’re hung nicely on the stand.

If you are looking to keep your personal entertainment devices in good running order, then an appropriate headphone stand is a small additional cost to pay.

CONVENIENT AND ACCESSIBLE STORAGE

If you are the type who keeps gadgets and headphones in hard cases or original boxes, then your stuff must be well cared for. But you know how time consuming and inconvenient that could be as well, especially when you suddenly need to put the headphones on but you are taking forever to remove it from its boxed nest. Although not as safe as a hard case, a headphone stand gives you a means to store your headphone without the time-consuming hassle of unwrapping every time you need it. if you work closely with audio files, this is definitely a time-saver and maybe a stress reducer as well.

PLASTIC STANDS

Different types of plastic can be used to craft headphone stands. Plastic is easier to mold so you get a lot of varieties in design and shape. It is also much cheaper than most other stand materials like wood or aluminum, so plastic stands are great options when you are looking for more economical ways to store your headphones decently on your desk or shelf.

LUXAHO-HDP-ALE1SI-00 E-ONE ALUMINUM HEADPHONE STAND

If you are looking for a stand to store your Beats, Skull Candy, Plantronics or DJ Silver, LUXA2’s E-One Headphone Stand has got all your functionality needs packed in an ultra-urbane, sleek silver package.

Brainwavz

Enter the Brainwavz Hengja.  The Hengja is not a complicated design in fact you can probably find something similar in the above DIY headphone stand thread above.  Maybe someone repurposed there nipple clamps (this might be entirely possible but I have yet to sift through the full 200 pages.  The Brainwavz Hengja though is essentially a rotating clamp that is designed to grip into a flat surface and provide you a place to hang your headphones as opposed to standing them, a headphone hanger if you will.  The Hengja has a pivot point in the middle that allows you to adjust the headphone stand to be able to clamp on any surface regardless of the angle. The part you actually rest your headphones on has a curve to fit the headband and the Hengja is made of metal for added durability. The clamp force was found to be very strong so it won’t be coming lose and dropping your headphones on the floor anytime soon.

AmoVee Acrylic Headphone Stand

If you’re looking for a stand that’s sleek, sturdy, inexpensive and minimalist, look no further than the AmoVee. Compatible with all brands and sizes and beautifully curved to resemble a small human head, the AmoVee is the perfect stand for someone who has a clean, modern bedroom or office adorned primarily in black and white colors. In spite of a luxurious aura, the AmoVee is very affordable and therefore a truly economic way to make a refined impression and own one of the best headphone stands.

Razer Headphone Stand

The Razer Headphone Stand is all about industrial-strength reliability thanks to the use of high-grade aluminum and rubber anti-slip feet. Razer went the Apple route with this one, making a product that’s designed to be compatible with Razer headphones, but it does also accommodate other brands. We should add that some customers have complained about a wobble effect, but it could be related to the home assembly since other customers have nothing but great things to say about the Razer.

Master & Dynamic Headphone Stand

So we’ve been throwing the words “durable” and “minimalist” around a lot when it comes to the best headphone stands, but the Master & Dynamic almost makes the other entries look flimsy and complicated by comparison. Made from machined, electroplated steel and supported by a weighted base, the Master & Dynamic flaunts a black polish and exudes the simplest kind of dependability imaginable. It almost looks like something the local blacksmith came up with. Expect premium durability at a premium price point.

Satechi Aluminum USB Headphone Stand Holder

The Satechi offers many of the same features as other best headphone stands on the list such as a durable aluminum base, a cable organizer, and compatibility with all brands and sizes, but with the added touch of three USB 3.0 ports. That means the stand is not only a great place to store your headphones but you can also transfer data and gain breezy access to any of your USB peripherals. Also included are rubberized grips at the top and base, a 3.5mm port to plug your headphones in, and the choice of three colors: space grey, silver and gold.

Bluelounge Posto Headphone Stand

The Bluelounge Posto takes a modest approach to optimum accessibility. It flaunts a singular color profile (black or white) and a universal design, making it compatible with not just any pair of headphones but pretty much any environment. It’s also incredibly simple to put together and very affordable. This one is a truly hassle-free headphone stand that leaves a very small footprint.

Plastic remote feels cheap

The Oppo PM-3’s are a truly stunning pair of headphones. Make no mistake, we’ve reviewed a lot of headphones in the last years but none have we become more fond of than the PM-3.

They’re equally comfortable being plugged into a headphone amp at home as they are commuting through the hustle and bustle of a big city, and they stand head and shoulders above rival products from bigger brands. We really can’t recommend them highly enough, they’re just amazing.

No detachable cable

AKG has the right idea when it comes to budget headphones. Instead of spending lots of money on an expensive, heavy construction, the company has instead clearly spend the bulk of its money on the K92’s drivers, which sound appropriately excellent.

Hinges on arms are fragile

When you buy a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, you’re often trading sound quality for the ability to block out outside noise. It’s a trade that we’ve been willing to make for years because, honestly, we just hadn’t been able to find a headphone that could do both noise-cancellation and Hi-Res audio.

Until now.

The TT-BH2feature active noise cancellation (ANC), which is unheard of in this price range, and on top of that, you get a rated 2hours of battery life. They’re not perfect, but if you need noise-cancellation and you don’t want to drop your next two paychecks on headphones, they’re worth checking out.

Light on features

Continuing the trend that the original NuForce BEstarted, the Optoma Nuforce BE6i are a minor update to an already great pair of earbuds and remain one of our favorite in-ear wireless headphones for the price.Offering good sound, build quality and battery life in its segment if you’re looking for a pair of wireless in-ear headphones that can survive a strenuous work out, the these should be on the top of your list of headphones to try.

Heart rate data not perfect

DIY Headphone Stand thread on Head-Fi is a wealth of knowledge on craftsmanship and design. Here are some general tips gleaned from their members, covering the basics of beginning woodworking and what kind of parts to use without breaking the bank. Get your knowledge on, then browse through the gallery to see some incredible headphone stands.

If anyone wants to make one – take 1/2″ ID PVC pipe, cut it at a 4and trim the edges down to the height/length you want. File any rough spots and then glue with some plastic glue (ie model glue), clamp, let sit overnight. Spray paint the next day.

The base is some scrap wood cut down, sanded and varnished. It has a wood block screwed to it that holds the PVC pipe snugly.

Appears to be like Fantastic.

Shipping and delivery was pretty excellent. The head by itself is terrific high quality but the finish on the be a part of of the two halves of glass could have been far better as its incredibly obvious but other than that it looks definitely good.

Future Perfect

In fact, the iPad is the best excuse for a Bluetooth headphone set. Why, you ask? Because unlike an iPhone or iPod that can be slipped into a breast pocket or bag, the iPad is a device you want to put down and use from a distance. Once you’ve used wireless headphones with your tablet, believe me, you won’t want to go back.

The problem is that Bluetooth headphones are still quite expensive and there are a lot of junk models on the market at the moment. I’ve had a look at the most popular ones available online today and you can go check out those reviews to see if one catches your attention.

If however you want to go headphone hunting on your own, here are some of the most important things to look out for when shopping for BT headphones.

File Under Audio

Obviously one of the most important aspects of the headphones is the sound quality, but defining that is pretty hard, as it turns out. The manufacturers can throw numbers at you but there are plenty of examples of headphones that sound better subjectively, even though they have lower specifications. Things like the BT compression math and cup material and shape can affect how the speakers sound; it is not just about the speakers themselves.

You want headphones that have a low bass frequency and good separation between low, mid, and high frequency sound. Often the best headphones will have multiple speakers in each cup that are dedicated to different frequency levels.

This poses a problem when buying online of course, since you can’t try them out first. Pay attention to user reviews and their impression of the sound. Also, be sure to make use of short term, no-questions-asked return policies if the headphones don’t sound good to you.

Another thing that can dramatically improve the perception of sound quality is active noise cancellation. This is where the headphones use an external mike to measure ambient noise and then counter it with tuned white noise so you can hear the audio in silence. It’s pretty amazing and worth getting if you can afford it.

Out of Control

The whole point of BT headphones is to give you some freedom, and it would be pretty dumb if you had to stay within arms length of the iPad in order to control playback or volume. Almost all BT headphones have onboard controls. While they will all work, some are easier and more comfortable to use. Give them a good look before you make a purchase to ensure your butter fingers will get on with them.

Design and Aesthetics

High up the list for many people is the looks and aesthetics of the headphones. After all you will have to be wearing the headphones you choose on your head for all to see! Unless you plan to use your new headphones alone at home then it’s likely you will be interested in how they look. Of course the quality of sound is also near the top of most lists, but with such a wide selection of good headphones to choose from it’s also likely that you will want your headphones to reflect your style.

Manufacturers such as SoundMAGIC have really gone to town with the styling of their headphones. While not to everyone’s taste SoundMAGIC have a unique look with a wide selection of vibrant colours.

If you are looking for headphones that look a little more sophisticated and refined then OPPO’s range of headphones are a good choice. While only relatively new to the consumer market in the UK, it’s not without reason that OPPO are quickly becoming market leaders. OPPO’s selection of headphones look stunning and perform equally well. The OPPO PM-headphones are a highly recommended set of stylish portable headphones with a rich, clear sound.

Sound Isolation

When listening to your headphones will you need to block out external noise, or do you need to prevent your music from annoying others around you. Ask yourself where, when and how you will be using your headphones.

If you will be listening to your headphones in an office or on public transport you will probably want to keep your music to yourself. In this case you will want to avoid open-back ear cup designs. Although open back headphones are often sonicly superior to closed back headphones the sound leaks out and people around you will be listening to a tinny version of what you are listening to – very annoying indeed.

If you travel on buses, trains or planes you might be thinking about noise cancelling headphones, but you may also want to consider in-ear sound isolating earphones instead as they are often able to reproduce a clearer more accurate sound. The extra electronics between your audio source and your ears means that noise cancelling headphones often colour the sound and reduce the clarity.

DJs and studio engineers also have a unique set of requirements when it comes to selecting headphones. A good set of DJ headphones should normally provide maximum isolation from outside sounds, so that you can concentrate on the mix you are putting together. Whereas a studio engineer may be more interested in being able to reproduce a good stereo sound image with sonic clarity and may not be so interested in sound isolation.

Sweetened VS Flat Frequency Response

But the most popular headphones and earphones/earbuds for general use are sweetened in some way. They are designed for consumers and usually are not bad. There are two types of sweetening modes: Free Field (FF) and Defined Field (DF). The first one Free Field simulates an open listening environment without any reflection and the second one simulates an enclosed listening environment such as a small room.

V-MODA Crossfade XS

Conceptualized by DJ and and CEO Val Kolton, the V-MODA XS has featured in the Best Headphone lists of numerous critics and reviewers around the world. Its mind-blowing sound clarity, 40mm drivers, and noise cancellation features ensure a perfect aural experience. These on-ear headphones are durable, surviving repeated drops and bends along with being ergonomic and molded to the shape of your cranium. These over-ear headphones are also very portable and can be folded and carried easily in the hard case provided.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50X

The Audio Technica M50x is the flagship product of Audio Technica’s remastered range of professional monitor headphones, the M-Series. These headphones deliver accurate sound and excellent comfort for extended studio listening sessions and music on the go. These over-ear headphones have oversized cushion cups that cover your ears completely and comfortably ensuring noise isolation and the 40mm drivers won’t give you a chance to complain about the sound. They’re very durable and last for years.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO

Designed primarily for critical music listening and studio monitoring, the closed back Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO is a very dynamic headphone. These headphones can deliver precision sound while providing a comfortable fit. Bass heavy and with insanely accurate high and mid-range sound, these headphones are indispensable for A/V professionals worldwide. The cables are single-sided and since the the DT 770 PRO comes in different Ohms, a headphone amplifier can be used to derive the best sound quality.

Plantronics BackBeat Pro

For wireless communication and effective noise-cancellation, look no further than the Plantronic Backbeat Pro over-ear headphones. They have an incredible battery life: 2hours of continuous wireless bluetooth streaming that allows you to build and listen, unplugged, to an endlessly long playlist. They have an OpenMic™ feature which allows you to tune in to the world when you want to. They’re comfortable, durable and provide an immersive sound experience.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Middle-of-the-road sound aside, we found a few bummers when it came to the Power Acoustik Farenheit HP-90RFT. First, as mentioned above, the package doesn’t include anything aside from the transmitter, the headphones, and the cases, so you’ll need to buy a power supply and some AAA batteries. While the lack of a built-in rechargeable battery means you don’t have to worry about seating the headphones on a cradle improperly and finding them uncharged when you want to use them (a likely problem with a few of the other models we tested), it also means you’ll need to keep disposable batteries on hand or to invest in a rechargable set of AAAs. And if you use the headphones a lot, purchasing batteries frequently could get annoying and costly.

Additionally, while the transmitter is small, it isn’t much to look at. It has two sets of RCA inputs and a little DC cable trailing like a tail off of the back. But when you consider that every single home theater headphone system we tested came in only basic black, and that most of the transmitter towers look like the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey, you realize that none of these things will win any design awards.

Some readers inquired about the lack of surround-sound capabilities. Achieving true surround sound is more complex than just buying some headphones that have the capability. We expound upon this topic more in What about surround sound? below.

With the

The only problem with these is that you cannot use them while they are on charging.

Your experience/skill level – If you’re an absolute beginner, a low-cost model with some built-in learning tools may well suffice until you’re ready to step up to a more advanced digital piano. On the other hand, if you’re an intermediate or advanced pianist, you’ll likely want to be more selective about touch response and velocity sensitivity discussed under Digital Piano Features below.

Portability/storability – If you expect to store the digital piano or travel with it, check the weight and the ease with which it can be broken down.

Polyphony

Polyphone refers to the number of individual notes or tones the piano can produce at once. At a bare minimum, you should have 32-note polyphony while 64-note polyphony is more adequate for creating complex sounds. The highest quality electronic pianos deliver 128-note  or 264-note polyphony.

Amplification and speakers

Generally speaking, if you are looking for a piano for home use, you will want to make sure your instrument has a built-in amp and speakers that produce a pleasing sound with adequate volume. If you are looking for a digital piano for live performance or recording in studio settings, be sure it has the output options for connecting to PA systems, external amplifiers or recording consoles.

Other features to look for depending on how you plan to use the piano are a headphone jack and USB port for connection to your computer.

With four-zone MIDI control that includes four knobs and six sliders, you can control internal sounds and external MIDI gear simultaneously. MIDI independent USB plus MIDI I/O as well as ¼” I/O and a ⅛” audio input gives you lots of connection flexibility.

The Roland RD-2000 is a studio-quality digital piano to meet the needs of professional performing and recording artists.

Whether you need a good digital piano that travels well or will be a key element in your home studio, there are models to suit your music and budget. Browse the entire Musician’s Friend collection of stage digital pianos here.

Amps and Cables

If you’re shopping for a console digital piano for use at home, you will probably select an instrument with a built-in amp and speakers. If you are in the market for a stage piano, and you know you are going to need extra volume for a large venue or for playing with an ensemble where a PA isn’t available, you will probably need to consider an amp and cables.

An entry-level keyboard amp like the Roland KC-200 will provide a good sound for a smaller price tag.

A mid-range keyboard amp, the Roland KC-200 is perfect as a monitor or an amp in smaller venues.

Roland’s KC-200 is a heavy duty little keyboard amp that actually produces a great sound for a variety of instruments. At 100W, and with a 12” woofer, this box is perfect for smaller settings, or as an on-stage monitor. The four-channel capability and multiple input options make it a great buy for the price.

The Hammond Leslie LS221Keyboard Amplifier is built for the pro musician who needs reliable, portable amplification.

Keyboard amps are available with a variety of features and at a wide range of price points. If you need something more affordable, something more powerful, or something more suitable for your home studio, browse the entire Musician’s Friend selection of keyboard amps here.

Selecting instrument cables for digital pianos pianos is pretty straightforward. Most have a basic 1/4″ phone jack connector, like the Planet Waves American Stage Instrument Cable.

The Planet Waves American Stage Instrument Cable is feet long, and uses audiophile-quality wire to deliver the most accurate sound from your piano to your amp.

There are longer and shorter 1/4″ cables, XLR cables, and some specifically designed to hold up under lots of touring and travel. You can browse the entire Musician’s Friend collection of instrument cables here.
