kids alarm clock Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy kids alarm clock, right? No!

The Insider Pick

Let’s face it: The ring, blare, buzz, or chirp of your alarm clock is probably never going to be your favorite sound. But then again, the angry rumble of your boss, when you show up late for work after oversleeping, is even worse. So make mornings a little easier by choosing an alarm clock that makes your return to reality if not a pleasure, then at least not a pain.

You might be wondering, “Why bother with an alarm clock when I have a phone?” A fair question and many people do wake up to their cell phone’s prompting. The problem with this, however, is it makes it far more difficult to put some space between your technology and your sleep, and those are two areas of your life best kept separate.

By the time that phone hits the nightstand, you’ve lost precious sleep time, you’ve tricked your brain into thinking it’s wake-up time instead of dream time, because the glow of the blue light emitted by your phone reduces your body’s release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep cycle. Instead of relaxing, you’ve stimulated your mind. All of that adds up to poor quality sleep followed by a groggy, foggy, “I don’t know why I’m so tired,” kind of morning.

Although the Electrohome Projection Alarm Clock is our top pick, for various reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the Sonic Alert Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock, the Philips Wake-Up Light, the Marathon Analog Desk Alarm Clock, and the OK to Wake! children’s alarm clock.

Electrohome

Big, bright display. We looked at clocks in all shapes and sizes. However, almost all of them had displays that were visible from at least 20 feet away in daylight and at night. The exceptions were the three analog clocks we reviewed, which are small and require you to push a button to illuminate.

Dimmable display. Although having a bright display is nice, without the option to dim it light sleepers may be kept awake at night.

Easy snooze button. Sometimes you need a few extra minutes. If you’re fumbling to find the snooze button, you may as well find your toothbrush and start the day.

Battery backup. If your home is prone to power outages, you’ll want a clock that will be ready in case of an emergency.

Radio. Some people prefer to wake up to music, weather, news, or whatever else is playing on the radio. This feature was available on about half of the clocks we reviewed, but it adds to the price.

Multiple alarms. Whether you have two people sharing a clock or prefer a different wake-up time for the weekends, there are several clocks that allow for two separate alarm times.

Multiple sounds. Some clocks beep, others buzz, and some provide soothing sounds for that wake-up call.

USB ports. Whether you use your smartphone as a backup plan or not, there are a few clocks that offer the option to charge gadgets by your bedside.

Bluetooth. Many alarm clocks now have Bluetooth, but not in this price range. Only one of the models we reviewed included wireless music streaming.

We tested a total of 1alarm clocks. Three of those were analog clocks, which were the only models that didn’t offer AC power; they’re completely battery-operated. Six of the 1models tested also included radios.

We tested each clock in a first-floor home office and a second-floor bedroom. This helped when testing reception on the clock radios, because it gave us data from different locations. We used them during the day and at night to test out brightness levels and if they were easy to work with in the dark. We also monitored each clock for accuracy, the duration of the snooze, and if the snooze would continue after one hour.

We think the RCA RCD30 is the best alarm clock for most people. It is the textbook definition of an alarm clock in features and style with an easy-to-use button layout, a bright display, and an alarm that should wake up even heavy sleepers. It’s also the least expensive model that we tested.

Of the models we tested, the RCD30 packed the largest display size in the smallest design, so it won’t take up much room on your nightstand. The illuminated display measures approximately 3.7by 1.inches, which was visible in daylight and at night from at least 20 feet away. The large display size is a boon for people who wear glasses because you don’t need to fumble with your glasses to check the time. If a big display keeps you up at night, know that the RCD30 does have two brightness settings.

The easy operation has a lot to do with the unit’s no-frills design. It has a large snooze button across the top, so you can usually hit it without much fumbling. That snooze also doubles as an hour/minute button for setting the time and alarm. On the back, there are three switches: one for setting the time/alarm, one for turning the alarm on/off, and one for dimming the front display.

The RCD30 is a basic unit, but it has all you really need in an alarm clock, including backup via a 9-volt battery so you won’t lose your settings if the power goes out at a.m. Just know that like most of the alarm clocks we tested, when using that battery the front of the RCD30 will not display the time, but the alarm will trigger in backup mode, which can’t be said of the Mesqool Projection Clock, the Sangean RCR-5, the Sonic Alert SBB500SS, and the Sony ICF-C1.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

A few of the alarm clocks we reviewed have up and down buttons for setting the clock and alarm time. The RCA RCD30 is not one of them. The minute and hour buttons go in only one direction, so if you get distracted while setting the time and go too far, you’ll need to cycle through again. This is not unique to the RCD30, though.

Also, out of all of the digital alarm clocks we reviewed, this one had the fewest perks. There’s no radio, projection, or separate alarm sounds. In fact, the clock has one alarm at one volume. If it’s too loud (or not loud enough), there are no other options. However, it’s a reliable, basic alarm clock and priced accordingly.

OK to Wake Clock

This wireless, color-changing alarm clock pulls double duty as a Bluetooth speaker and USB charger. The changing lights can help little ones who are afraid of the dark, and the streaming capabilities mean you can set a white noise or let her fall asleep to her favorite lullabies.

Pam the Penguin Clock

This tiny, compact LED box does it all: Alarm clock, Bluetooth speaker, smart touch lamp, and MPplayer! The touch-sensitive lamp comes with three settings (dim, medium, and bright), seven colors, and the battery power (it charges with a USB cable) lasts up to seven hours of light or five hours of music. You can even program the alarm to blast your kiddo’s current power jam, which will make the early mornings a lot more bearable.

Classic Clock

With so many different characters—Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman, Darth Vader and more—there’s a minifig alarm clock for every one of your LEGO-obsessed kids. 9” tall, with movable arms and legs, the LCD digital screen is easy to read, and there’s an easy alarm/snooze setting.

This alarm clock, affectionately known as Clocky, rolls away so that your child has to go and find him in order to turn it off. Talk about a wake-up call.

All major brands of Quality Mantel Clocks are available here at the lowest prices allowed online. All mantel clocks include Free Shipping anywhere within the cont. United States. Our mantel clocks come in a variety of styles and finishes in both chiming and non-chiming varieties: – mechanical movements that need to be wound once per week.

Desk and Table Clocks – when space is at a premium, consider a table clock as these are much smaller.

Very good

For the past few months, I’ve been using the as my bedside alarm clock. It has great speakers, shows me the weather for the week and wakes me with an alarm in the morning. However, if I want to get an extra 1minutes of shut-eye, I have to say, “Alexa, snooze!” which is not exactly a relaxing thing to do.

Setting an alarm

The feature of the iHome that most drew my attention is that you can set an alarm using Alexa but then use the iHome’s physical buttons to snooze or turn off the alarm. It’s something that’s been a long time coming, and while it’s welcome, it could still use some tweaking.

Things to consider

Before jumping in with our pick of the best tablets for kids, it’s worth thinking about some of the factors you’ll want to consider when selecting the right one. For example, if a tablet is likely to take a regular beating in the hands of your child, you’ll need to look for one with built-in protection, or at least a protective case.

Other considerations should include whether the operating system allows the parental controls you’ll want. Some tablets, particularly those aimed at younger users, have robust controls which allow parents to limit what apps young users can run, or what websites can be accessed and when. This means you don’t need to worry (quite as much) about what they are doing.

There’s also the questions of whether the tablet can run the apps your child wants, or needs to use the device along with their tech toys (or the educational toys you want them to use). There’s no point buying them a new tablet of their own if they still need to borrow yours whenever they want to run their favorite app, play their top games or use their new robot pet.

You’ll also want to give some thought to what size tablet is going to suit your little one. Too small and they will invariably still want you use yours, but too big and they will leave it at home and not use it at times they otherwise could have. Obviously there’s also the ever-present issue of cost.

Apple iPad Mini 4

When it comes to tablets, Apple’s offering needs little introduction. The iPad Mini features a 7.9-inch 204x 153pixel screen, an Apple Achip and runs iOS While this all means it’s a good device for adults, it’s size also makes it well-suited for kids, even if the price limits that appeal as far as their parents are concerned.

If anything can pull one out of slumber, it would probably be the mouth-watering aroma of food. In this case, it’s bacon. The Bacon Alarm Clock hasn’t turned into a product yet, but it could possibly be the best-selling clock of the year if it did! Rather than wake you up with a noisy alarm sound, it lets the smell of bacon do the work.

Coffee Time Alarm Clock

Not a fan of bacon? Try coffee instead with this Coffee Time alarm clock. Wake up to the sound of coffee drips, the strong aroma of coffee beans and if the alarm doesn’t wake you up, just let the coffee do the rest. Too bad it’s just a concept alarm clock. For now.

No Snooze Alarm Clock

Once this alarm clock rings, you have to lift the strap and twirl the strap for 90 seconds, managing two rotations for each second. The No Snooze Alarm Clock will not stop if you go too slow or if you stop completely halfway through. In fact, you have to make the full run again if you fail halfway. No snooze button included. This is a cruel one.

Sfera Alarm Clock

Want an alarm clock that allows you to snooze then get this Sfera alarm clock. When the time has come, you can tap the alarm to stop sounding. If you go bak to sleep, the clock will start to rise up towards the ceiling; steal an extra or more minutes, and you’d need to prepare yourself a ladder so to reach the ceiling, because that’s where the alarm clock will be! Drag it back down to your bed to fully deactivate the alarm clock.

IQ Alarm Clock

Here’s one for Mensa group members; the IQ Alarm Clock doesn’t take a snooze for an answer. To make it stop ringing, solve an IQ question, and this is not the riddle me this type, it’s a standard IQ test. I would love to hate this clock, but the design is so sleek that I wouldn’t mind to have one in my bedroom – without batteries of course.

Chirp Alarm Clock

Here’s an interesting one. If you are a light sleeper, and you sleep with a roommate or bedmate, then waking up is a pretty sensitive issue. While the other alarm clocks in the list would send your roommate smashing them to pieces if you don’t wake up before they do, this one, can selectively wake its owner by vibrating his or her pillow until they are up. Put the clip back into the alarm clock to make it stop and your roommate will not be the wiser. It even beats the conventional alarm clock system.

CWBAdmin

People who are hard of hearing or are deep sleepers often find standard alarm clocks not very effective at waking them up. A good solution is to buy a vibrating alarm clock. These types of clocks come with a device that you put under your bed, your pillow or you can wear as a watch. When it is time to wake up, it vibrates and the alarm goes off. Most of the vibrating alarm clocks also come with extra loud alarms and lamp flashers. Vibrating alarm clocks are also a great option for anyone who has to wake up without disturbing others.

Key features to look for

For consumers, there are a number of things that you should keep in mind when choosing a clock. These include the power source, the loudness of the alarm, strength of the bed shaker and many other things.

Power Source- While most vibrating clocks are one that you plug into an electrical outlet, you may want to ensure that any model you choose also has a battery backup in the case of a power outage or if you will be using it while travelling.

Time Display If you wear glasses or are visually impaired you may want to consider products that have a large, bright LED or LCD display. Conversely if you are someone who is bothered by a bright display there are products that allow you to change the brightness or that dim the display while you are sleeping.

Runner Up

What reviewers love about this alarm: You can adjust everything on this alarm: snooze time, alarm volume and pitch, whether you have just the alarm, just the bed shaker, or both. Some users have noted that one of the best features is adjustable time on the snooze button. While others find it  aesthetically pleasing. The very large display is very easy to read at night even for someone that requires eyeglasses during the day.

What Could be Improved: The face of clock is a little too bright at night for some users, and there is no reset button. There are also some design issues that bother some users in particular the buttons for changing the alarm is on the back of the unit.

It is also a great product for hearing impaired people or heavy sleepers, guaranteed to wake you up.

Performance

As far as the best performing vibrating alarm clock, the clear choice is the Sonic Bomb with super shaker. It is super loud has dual alarms as well as pulsating alert lights and the Super Shaker bed vibrating unit, if you cannot wake up with this alarm clock you are in big trouble.
