panty liner Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy panty liner, right? No!

Woo hoo!

What we recommend is buying one or two pair of the heavy duty Thinx menstrual panties and using these for free bleeding or for nights on your heavy days. Then for your lighter days, sleeping during days 3+ of your cycle you can use a cheaper menstrual panty from the rest of the list below.

Pack: Single pair only

Dear Kate menstrual underwear is pretty darn good. The fabric on these menstrual panties is super comfortable and soft. The cut is great in all three different styles and women love them. They are very expensive however and are priced similarly to the Thinx panties.

Not essential, but nice to have — these are perfect for car keys, small change or a phone. If they’re deep, you shouldn’t need zips.

To stop the waist popping open accidentally, it should have a press-stud fixing. Extra studs and/or a small strip of Velcro provide additional security. Belt loops are a good idea if there are no waist adjusters.

Cargo pockets

They may sound like a great idea for carrying extra clobber, but they put all your gear in the worst place for an accident, and the contents are more likely to bang against your thighs when pedalling. We’d avoid them.

You will pay extra to have a liner short included. It has to be comfortable and highly wicking. Look for a shaped pad, wicking construction and make sure it’s snug against your skin to wick properly and reduce chafing.

Avoid liners with a flat pad and little shape. Our advice is to try before you buy. Factor in about £2for an aftermarket liner if your short doesn’t come with one. There is nothing stopping you mixing and matching brands.

Foot note

Shorts with a lower length provide the best airflow and ease of movement when you run. These shorts are very lightweight, non-restrictive and highly technical in their construction. They are usually preferred by runners who run longer distances.

Long length

For shorter running distances a longer short is often the preferred choice.  What you do want to avoid is a material that will retain heat or moisture and disrupt your comfort. When you start racking up those miles you may want to progress to a slightly shorter model to increase your comfort and limit the possibility of discomfort.

Compression shorts

Lycra shorts are often chosen for their compression technology or if you prefer a “pull on and forget about it” approach to your short, some people find even the swishing of a split short irritating on those quiet runs. Lycra shorts are more favoured by female runners.

Another way of doing this is by choosing a split short, this style features a split on the side of each leg to open up movement, these are often favoured by marathon or endurance runners because of their weight.

Pockets

The last thing to look for is a pocket, true running shorts usually have one zip up or Velcro pocket to keep your keys and a bit of food in but other than that they should be pocket free, you want to avoid carrying that heavy smartphone and wallet in your shorts as they will swing around and make you uncomfortable.

Throughout this document, we have provided links to the best sellers in each category. This way you will know what other men are buying.

Waist Measurement

Measure your waist by placing the tape measure around the natural indentation or break in your waist. If you need help locating this indentation, bend to the side; the crease will be the location of your waist. (Our site provides a tape measure which may be printed out).

Natural fitting crotch

A pantywear crotch should fit naturally against your body. There should be no excessive fabric in the front or back, and should definitely not be binding. If your panty has a front horizontal crotch seam, it should be visible from the front and not slip backwards. If it does, check to rolling over in the front, you have the wrong size. Try a smaller size. The right size means your band stays in place and is comfortable.

Legs are snug but not binding

Male customer’s feedback: “I am a married male, a musician, who has worn nylon panties 24/since high school back in the 1950s. I have probably worn ever brand of panties to appear on the planet over the last 50 plus years, although I have consistently preferred full-brief (“Granny”) panties. About 20 years ago I settled into wearing a brand called “Underscore” sold at J.C. Penney’s. I was disappointed when they were discontinued and I had to transfer my allegiance to Vanity Fair’s Ravissant and Lace Nouveau, both of which I like, but not as well as the “Underscore.” About two months ago, I stumbled upon a newly reappearing brand called Shadowline (17042) which, to my delight, are identical to my old favorites, the new Shadowline panties. The quality is superb and the semi-sheer nylon is tightly woven and delightfully silky. The elastic waist and leg bands wear like iron and don’t stretch out of shape. I am still wearing a few of the old “Underscore” panties I’ve had for 1plus years. The newly reintroduced Shadowline 1704is a great-fitting panty for men and is plain and undecorated enough to wear to the gym or the doctors. The colors currently available are black, white and beige. They are priced in the same range as the aforementioned Vanity Fair panties.

Although I am in no way qualified to critique or recommend any kind of underwear for women, I can certainly do so for men.

Natracare

Unfortunately, many conventional feminine care products use synthetic materials such as rayon for absorption as a substitute to cotton. The process of bleaching rayon has been known to produce a carcinogenic byproduct called dioxin. Sadly this substance may be linked to cancer as well as a range of reproductive health concerns such as endometriosis.

Natracare products are a safer option as they refuse cotton that has been treated with pesticides or chemicals. It is completely biodegradable with no fragrances, dyes or lubricants. This ensures your body’s internal environment is protected from regular contact with synthetic materials, offering you peace of mind.
