Energy Efficiency

With the Pentair IntelliFlo VS+SVRS pump, you can cut energy costs and maintain pool safety at the same time. Your utility bill for running the inground pool pump system can be reduced by 30% to 90%. This is possible because of Pentair’s advanced motor technology that uses exclusive permanent magnet motor technology like the ones used in hybrid cars.

The Variable pump speeds, digital control and intelligent software that allow customized programming of optimum pump speeds contribute to bigger energy savings. You can set the ideal speed for filtering, spa jets, water falls, heating, etc. In almost all cases, the optimum speed is lower than the pre-set speeds of older pumps. With improved efficiency, you will be able to enjoy substantial savings right away.

What Customers Say

Without exception, customers who submitted a variable speed pool pump reviews all agreed that this is the leading variable speed pool pump they have ever used. It works very quietly and efficiently while delivering top quality performance. Its SVRS safety feature is unparalleled. The pump is easy to install and to operate.

Once you have programmed the optimum settings based on your specific requirements, it’s practically a hands-free operation. The savings in energy cost is amazing and the quiet operation is a big bonus. The price is quite steep but customers say that the pump is worth every single penny.

Hayward SP159Power Flo Pool Pump

Pentair 01101Intelliflo VS 3050 Pool Pump

Unless you are willing to clean your pool manually, you will need a good quality pool pump. However, before you go out and buy one, you should take the time to research and find the ideal pool pump for your needs. For many users, the Pentair 01101IntelliFlo VS 3050 High-Performance Pool Pump happens to be the number one choice. This revolutionary pump is available in an attractive almond color and is considered to be a high-end option.

The Pentair VS 3050

With the Pentair IntelliFlo VS 3050, the pump can be programmed for four different speeds that are ideal for pool, spa or water feature applications. Digital controls allow the user to program the ideal pump speeds for filtering, cleaning, heating, spa jets and waterfalls. To save on energy, the pump can be set for the minimum speed required for a certain task.

Thus, the pump works less and saves on energy. You can adjust the pump speed easily by pushing the controller’s up or down arrow button. The IntelliFlo system self-adjusts to maintain optimal flow rates. This results in more energy savings. The Pentair VS 3050 can help you save up to 40% on energy costs.

Flow Rate

The flow rate is measured in GPM that stands for gallons per minute. The flow rate means the amount of water the pump can process in a set amount of time. In order to choose the right pool pump, you need to know the minimum and maximum flow rate. To circulate entire water in the pool through the filter within a certain number of hours, the minimum flow rate must be maintained. It is also known as turnover time and usually, 8-hours is considered a good turnover time for a home pool. You can establish your required flow rate once you know the required turnover rate.

Plumbing Pipe Sizes

It is considered the most overlooked part of a pool project. There are different sizes of pipes such as 1.5”, 2.0”, 2.5” and 3.0”. Ideally, you should put a larger pump on a pool plumbed with a larger pipe but putting a larger pump on a pool with a smaller pipe can cause damages. If you install a two horsepower of the pump and let the water flow through 1.5” of pipe, it will cause strain on the pipe due to the amount of water moving through the pipe which would be more than it can bear. Simply put, bigger pipes can handle a large volume of water and smaller one less amount.

Easy To Install & Operate

You need to choose a good pool pump that is not just easy to install but also operate. Though some brands offer installation that may be part of the purchase, some may charge you for it. It is recommended to get the pump installed by a professional to prevent voiding or lessening of the warranty period. The correct operation of the pool pump is equally important for its longevity. Obviously, if you operate incorrectly, your energy charges will go up and it may cause damage to some of the electronics part which the warranty may not cover.  Always thoroughly read owner’s manual before installing and operating the pool pump.

Saves Energy Saves Money

Research has proved that a pool pump can be responsible for contributing as much as 30% to your household bills. However, if used smartly and efficiently they save energy as well as your money. By getting a professional’s opinion about the type of pool pump that is suitable for you, you will save energy as well as money. Smaller sized pumps are highly efficient and effective in doing the job and meanwhile being easy on the energy consumption as well as the monetary expenditure. Furthermore, running your pump at a lower speed cycle saves abundant amount of energy and obviously your money.

Long Life Span

The pool pump like any other machine needs proper care and maintenance. However, by paying a little attention to the filters of the pool cleaner, the life span of the pool cleaner gets enhanced considerably. Also by employing a smaller sized pump, the wear and tear of the pump is reduced. By making sure that your pool pump is as per the requirement of your swimming pool you will automatically ensure a longer life span of your pump. Life span of your pump also depends on the speed at which you operate your pump. Research has established that operating your pump on a variable speed guarantees longer longevity of the pool pump.

Quiet Operation

Unlike most motor operated machines a pool pump does not create an unbearable amount of noise. It is imperative to keep the pool pump in a good condition and running smoothly in order for it to operate noiselessly. The filter of the pool pump must be regularly and laboriously cleaned in order to ensure that the pump keeps running smoothly and noiselessly. Reducing the speed of the pool pump is also an effective way to diminish the sound produced by the pump.

Avoid Algae Build-up

It is advised by professionals that the pool pump must be kept running for a minimum of three to four hours each day in order to have a sparkling clear and hygienic swimming pool. Apart from cleaning the debris and dirt, the pool pump also ensures that there is no built up of algae on the floor as well as the wall of the pool. The pool pump when operational works vigorously to filter the entire water of the swimming pool. By continuously filtering the water of the pool, the pool pump ensures there are no algae built-up at all.

Pool pump choosing tips

When selecting a pool pump system for the pool is necessary to pay attention to its noise characteristics. Too loud motor running is obviously annoying while swimming. It is also an important point.

It should be taken into account such as the technical aspects: location and method of installation of the pump, the water temperature and the ambient conditions, the desired voltage and secure the device connection.

How many water pool pumps needed

The number of swimming pool pumps depends on the design of the pool and its spaciousness. As a general rule, to inflatable and frame structures with large volume manufacturers are making one cup filter pump for the pool.

Swimming pool pumps features

All kinds of pumps in the basins often not used as an independent equipment, and in part filtering units, working as a unit with the filter. This is because the filter and pump are closely related parameters. Even buying a pump for the inflatable pool, you must pay attention to its performance that it is not higher than the performance of the filter. Otherwise, due to increased water flow rate recommended by the filter, purifying the quality deteriorates. Even worse, if such a discrepancy will damage the entire structure as a whole. You should choose the best pool pump suitable especially for your case.

Self-priming pump for swimming pool

It is the most common type of pool pump design used in swimming pools. He is able to raise the water to a height of about meters, so it can be installed above the water level without using the check valve. However, despite this possibility, self-priming pump installed in this manner is not recommended because of overloading its service life may be significantly reduced. Best to place the device under the water level, for example, in the basement.

Easy Set Pool Filter Systems

Easy Set pools come with an integrated pump and filter unit that is matched to the pool size. These filters are rated in gallons per minute of water flow; 530 gpm, 1000 gpm, 1500 gpm and 2500 gpm.

An easy way to upgrade your Easy Set pool filter is to just buy a larger Intex Filter System, to increase the water volume per hour. They all have the same filter size however, except for the 2500 gpm unit, which uses a larger filter cartridge.

Metal Frame Filter Systems

Metal Frame pools are much deeper than the Easy Set pools, and with a sturdy frame around the laminated canvas pool shell, they can hold much more water.

If you need even greater filtering capacity, the Hayward EC-30 Perflex DE filter will make any Intex pool shine like a diamond, with the power of diatomaceous earth filtration.

Ultra Frame Filter Systems

Ultra Frame pools need the largest filters, but these pool sets may be sold in the box with one of the smaller filters, which wear out quickly under the strain of so much water.

If you want the most superior form of pool filtration in terms of particle size, then look at the Hayward EC-50 Perflex filters, with the same Power-Flo pump as the X-Stream cartridge filter, but with a diatomaceous earth filter.

Installing a New Intex Filter System

As written above, how long to run a swimming pool pump depends on many different variables.

A “dirtier” pool will need its pump running for a longer time than a pool that is used by few people. A dustier place will require more filtration. In the winter you can get away with less running time as algae theoretically have less opportunity to grow (or perhaps no one is using it anyway! – especially for the above ground outdoor pools!).

There are some things that you can do to lessen the number of hours your pump runs. Basically, you need to do some work to help your filtration system do an easier job. This requires a more hands-on approach to getting safe clear water.

It Protects Your Pool Investment

Not only will removing water from a pool cover save you hundreds of dollars in replacement covers, but it also saves your pool as well from the stress of hundreds of pounds of pressure that standing water and melting snow will put on your cover and ultimately on your pool walls.

Pool Cover Pumps Are Lifesavers When Opening Your Pool

I’ve done this a few times and I’m sure if you’ve owned a pool for some time, you have too. In a rush to open the pool over Labor Day Weekend, you pull off the wire that attaches your pool cover and you start to yank the cover off while letting all of that dirty water and debris from the cover fall right into the pool water. Then you spend days upon days trying to vacuum and clear that cloudy mess you created.

One year I used to see a few local ducks visit the little ‘pond’ I had created on my pool cover because I didn’t pump the water off of it. Those ducks swam and pooped all over that cover and it was an awful mess by the time I was ready to open the pool in the spring. No matter how many times I chased those ducks away, they always came back when I wasn’t looking.

They Also Help In Closing Your Pool

I’ve recommended buying a pool cover pump to many people and I always mention that you’re not buying a one-trick-pony here. These pumps have multiple uses, not just in removing water from your winter cover.

I have an old Rule 1800 Pool Cover Pump that I use every year to lower the pool water level to below the skimmer so I can close the pool for the winter. It’s easy and depending on how powerful of a pump you buy, it doesn’t take long to pump out a few thousand gallons.

You Have A Very Limited Pool Budget

Let’s be honest. If you have a tight budget and you need to pick between pool chemicals or just the winter cover itself or a pool cover pump, go with the things you REALLY need to run and protect the pool. You NEED chemicals to keep the water safe and sanitary and if you live in cold climates, you need to cover your pool for the winter.

I’ll show you below another manual way of removing water from your winter cover that is less expensive than the top of the line electronic cover pumps. It’s not the most ideal solution but its budget friendly for sure.

How Much Water Can It Pump

When buying a pool cover pump, they are always rated by their maximum flow rate or how many gallons per hour they can pump. You will want something that is over 1500 gallons per hour (GPH) flow rate in order to properly remove water from a cover in a timely fashion.

I Recommend An Automatic Pump

There are manual pumps on the market which require you to walk outside and use a hand pump to start the suction process to remove the water, but that is a real pain. Imagine having to go outside in every rain storm to get the pump going! No way.

All of the pumps I will recommend here (with the exception of the one single manual pump I recommend for the cost conscious folks out there) are automatic pumps which are able to either detect when there’s water to be pumped out or which turn on and off after a set amount of time.

A Strainer Base Is Important But Not Required

A strainer is a removable plastic base the pump sits on that keeps leaves and other debris out of the pump. I live in an area where there are tons of trees, lots of leaves, and it’s very windy which means there are leaves on my pool cover all the time. If you buy a pump with a strainer base, you won’t have issues with clogging and they’re easy to remove and clean too.

Value. Systems. Season. Technology.

The cost to heat your pool with an AquaComfort pool heater is 80% less than a propane heater and 70% less than a natural gas heater.

The life expectancy of an AquaComfort heater is nearly twice that of a fossil fuel heater.

Since 2000, while the efficiency of the average fossil fuel heater (natural gas, propane, oil) has remained constant, the AquaComfort heater has improved by 27% in efficiency due to component performance improvements and design improvements.

The efficiency of fossil fuel heaters decrease over the course of their life expectancy while the efficiency of an AquaComfort heater is constant throughout its life. This means that the operating cost of a gas heater grows every year.

Adding a small AquaComfort heat pump to an existing gas heater can reduce your pool heating cost by 50% and your carbon footprint by more than 60%.

The typical gas heater emits 15,000 – 20,000 pounds of CO annually. A heat pump pool heater is the environmentally correct pool heating option, reducing your pool heating carbon footprint by nearly 100%.

SINGLE-SPEED POOL PUMP

These pool pumps feature a motor running on 120 volts, for domestic markets or 220 volts. These pumps only have one constant speed that cannot be reduced or increased while they are being used.

The standard speed of single-speed swimming pool pumps is at 3,450 RPM. It only features an on or off switch.

Single-speed swimming pool pumps are ideal whenever you only want fill the pool with water or remove the water in no time. These pool pumps also have different power outputs and are particularly efficient.

DUAL SPEED OR TWO-SPEED POOL PUMP

Dual-speed or two-speed water pumps feature speed ratings as determined by the manufacturer. While operating these pumps is similar to operating single-speed pumps, they feature two speed ratings, low speed and high speed. The low speed rating of these pumps is typically at 1,72RPM. On the other hand, the high speed is at 3,450 RPM, which is twice as fast as its low speed.

To change the speed of these pumps, you have to use the frequency inverter or the toggle switch of the pump. Pumps with a frequency inverter are quite costly and normally feature a high capacity motor or an industry-level motor with a three-phase connection. While pumps with toggle switches are suitable for use at a home swimming pool, these may require a significant initial investment. Using these pumps may also result in higher power costs for a long period of time.

The low-speed setting is suitable for basic operations, including filtration and circulation. On the other hand, the high-speed setting is normally used when it is necessary to empty the swimming pool. But, when these pumps are operated together with pool heaters and other equipment, they will require more power.

Great Value Option

Of all the pools, I have used myself this one is a great all-rounder that has a nice size especially for children and offers all the things you need at a very low price point.

Some on ground pools can be a bit tricky and time consuming to set up. Though this one is easily one of the easiest that I have set up. It took me around an hours’ time to get it set up and ready to go thanks to the easy to follow instructions – they even have included a DVD which shows you exactly what you need to be doing to set up the pool which is tremendously useful if you aren’t sure what to do on a certain step of the instructions.

I was surprised that Intex have included a pump and filter system on such an inexpensive pool and while it isn’t the best pump(due to being not powerful enough) it does a decent job of keeping the pool clean. They have also included filters which can be swapped out as you need which is nice.

Bargain Choice

This pool is one of the cheapest pools that I used that actually is quality and not some flimsy and poor quality like other cheap options that I used.

The pool is an ideal size for children or adults that just enjoy relaxing in the water. When it came to the setup of this pool it was very simple and easy. It personally only took me about 30 minutes and only about 2-hours to fill the pool up from empty.

The frame that allows this pool to hold its shape is strong and are made from a steel that is galvanized to protect it from the weather elements. The material that holds all the water inside is durable and can take some punishment with becoming punctured.

One thing I would like to mention about this pool is due to its smaller size it can fit in a much smaller space. So even if you have a smaller backyard this pool will likely be a more suitable size for you than some of the other pools which can be bigger and use a lot more space typically.

Suction

Suction cleaners attach with a hose to the skimmer box, and use the suction created by existing pool pump to suck up dirt and debris, which will end up in your swimming pool’s filter. Suction cleaners are the most common type of automatic pool cleaner.

Swimming Pool Vacuum

Significantly cheaper than an automatic cleaner, a manually operated pool vacuum has a hose that connects to the intake pipe to the pool filter. It has a vacuum head on wheels and a telescopic pole.

You connect the hose to the vacuum head & the vacuum head to the telescopic pole, put the cleaner in the pool, and then hold the hose under the pool surface to allow all the air to escape, before connecting it to the suction port under the skimmer basket (if the hose is full of air it may damage your pool pump, or cause it to cut out). You then move the vacuum over the sides, steps and bottom of the pool to suck debris into the pool filter.

A manual pool vacuum has no moving parts and is a cost-effective way to clean your pool. However, depending on the size of the swimming pool, it may take you several hours to completely clean your pool. Backwashing the filter after vacuuming adds even more time to the task. Like all cleaners connected to your pool pump, the cleaner your pool’s filtration system, the more efficiently the pool cleaner will work.

Swimming Pool Skimmer

A swimming pool skimmer is essential to pool maintenance whether using manual or automatic vacuum units. It uses the same long pole as the manual vacuum and consists of a net on a rigid frame. It is used to collect debris from the surface of the water before it reaches the basket filter in the skimmer box, or the floor of the pool. It is a good habit to skim the surface before cleaning the pool – even if you use a pool cover there will likely be some debris that gets through. The cost of a skimmer net is minimal. Using one regularly saves wear and tear on your filtration system, and makes cleaning a simpler task.

Swimming Pool Brush

Another cleaning attachment which typically uses the same telescopic pole as a manual cleaner head, is a stiff brush for removing dirt and debris from the pool surface (especially the steps). A brush can loosen stubborn dirt or debris, to enable a manual vacuum or automatic cleaner to remove them.

No extra ports or pumps to install

This type of cleaner is generally the least expensive automatic type. It uses a long hose, connected to the inlet at the bottom of the skimmer box. The hose must be long enough to allow the unit to reach the farthest and deepest parts of your pool. Suction-side cleaners use your existing plumbing and filtration system. Be aware that all the dirt from your pool will be dragged into your existing filter, which will lead to extra work for you, cleaning or backwashing the filter. In addition, the more dirt and debris there is in the filter, the less efficiently the cleaner will work.

If your pool gathers a lot of leaves or other large debris, it may be advisable to buy a separate leaf catcher adapter that which connects to the hose and traps large debris before it enters the filtration system. However, if you have little or no large debris, but a lot of fine dirt or sand collecting in your pool, a suction-side cleaner is likely to be more effective than a pressure-side device.

Connecting & setup is similar to the manual cleaner described above. You may need to turn your cleaner upside down to allow all the air inside to escape, otherwise the cleaner may not sink to the bottom of your pool.

Once the unit is connected and the filter is running, the suction-side cleaner uses the suction of the water being pulled through it by the pool pump, to move itself around your pool – it basically acts like a moving drain. Most suction-side cleaners move in a random pattern across the floor and sides of the pool, however the geared / wheeled types generally move in a series of pre-determined left and right turns. Brushes or squeegees attached to the underside of the unit detach particles of sand, dirt and debris, and suction carries debris to the pool filter. Unlike other types of automatic cleaner, there are no separate filter bags to clean or replace with this type.

You can adjust the flow volume at the hose or on the unit to fine-tune the operation of your cleaner. Too much pressure can make the cleaner move too quickly, which can cause it to miss areas needing cleaned. Pressure above what the cleaner is designed for can also cause damage to the cleaner itself. Conversely, too little pressure will result in your cleaner not moving at all, moving slowly, or not being able to climb the walls of your pool.

Some pools have a dedicated connection for suction-side cleaners. However this is not common & is generally done when the pool is installed.

If your pool pump, filtration and plumbing system has been sized correctly by the pool manufacturer, this type could well be the best solution for your pool. On the other hand, if your pool pump and filter struggle to operate the pool in normal conditions, it may be best to look at another type of cleaner which doesn’t use your existing plumbing.

Be aware that if your pool only has one skimmer box, this will be bypassed while your cleaner operates, so the surface of your pool will not be skimmed during the cleaning cycle. This task may be ongoing for several hours.

As suction-side pool cleaners need the pool pump to run continuously, they are less energy efficient than other cleaners.

In-Floor Systems

If you are looking for the ultimate pool cleaning system with all the features, functionality and convenience, an in-floor system may be what you need.

In-floor systems use a separate pump and water circulation system that pumps water to a series of directional jets in the floor of the pool. These jets rise from the floor of the pool during a cleaning cycle, similar to lawn sprinklers in an irrigation system. The jets blow all the debris on the pool floor to a collection point, where it is removed from the pool. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, the jets sink back into the pool floor.

With an in-floor cleaning system there is need to vacuum the pool, and the water should be crystal clear all year.

As there is a lot of plumbing involved, this type of system is best installed at the same time as the pool. The cost of retrofitting this type of system to an existing pool is usually prohibitive. If you are interested in an in-floor system, Paramount is the world leader.

Solar-Powered Pool Skimmer

Solar-powered pool cleaners are a relatively recent development. They harness free energy from the sun, floating around the surface of your pool all day, collecting leaves and debris before they have a chance to fall to the floor of your pool.

GSGAdmin

Now is the time for you to invest in an above ground swimming pool. These pools often have many of the same features as an in-ground pool, so you and your family will be able to enjoy it all season long. With an above ground pool, you’ll enjoy the same fun of an in-ground swimming pool with less maintenance and expense. Use this Above Ground Pool Buyer’s Guide to help you throughout the process.

Size & Shape

The size of the above ground pool you want to purchase is one of the first decisions you’ll have to make in this process. Small above ground pools are 15-1feet across; the largest pools can be 30-3feet across. Above ground pool depth ranges from 48-5inches. A smaller pool is ideal for families who have only one kid, or those who only want to use the pool on the weekend. For families of or more people, or those who plan to entertain frequently, plan to build a pool that’s at least 2feet in diameter. There are two shapes for above ground pools: oval and round. Oval pools give you a lot of room for water sports (like volleyball and basketball) and swimming laps. It also helps maximize your yard space. Round pools are easy to install, and you have a lot of room to play in all directions.

Installation

Our team is happy to help you throughout the installation process and we’ll work together to create a plan that is unique for your yard. For above ground swimming pools, the ground must be level and solid. There shouldn’t be rocks, roots, or other sharp objects under your pool. If you have a sloped yard, or if your backyard isn’t a good candidate for an above ground pool, consider one of our On Ground Pools instead.

BUILD: The build process uses the Intex easy lock system for the tubulars, that helps to really speed and simplify pool construction. Of course all the interlocking pool supports are powder coated and rust resistant. Pool liner is made from super durable laminated PVC.

SALTWATER SYSTEM: Many pool owners upgrade to this system but it comes as standard with the Ultra range. Like the sand filter this is a low maintenance method of pool hygiene. Once set up and running correctly chemical usage should be greatly reduced and pool water softer and even more pleasant to enjoy.

INCLUDED IN THE BOX: Although deals do vary throughout the year this highlighted pool comes with a compendium of products to get new owners started. Bundled are a ladder, ground cover, Debris cover and a complete pool maintenance kit.

Pool Construction

The Intex Ultra Frame pool rectangular range does comes with three size options, but erecting the pool is essentially the same for all.

The main thing is to be methodical through the assembly.  The easy lock system on the tubulars makes for fast assembly of the frame. Build time will vary on size of course, but shouldn’t take much more than a morning, even with coffee breaks.

In common with so many jobs, preparation is everything. Making ready the area where the pool will be sited takes the most time, care, and attention. Levelling the ground is a job that is imperative to get right, especially on larger pools. An inch or two difference between ends of the pool doesn’t sound much but it’s visually magnified with a pool is filled. The water line should be parallel to the top of the pool, not a real show stopper when it isn’t, it just looks odd, and could be a real irritation to look at.

New Hydro Aeration Feature

The Intex Ultra frame range is fitted with the Hydro Aeration system helps to keep the pool clearer by causing the finer particles to clump together and drop to the bottom of the pool. This means they can be routinely be vacuumed up during the pool cleaning schedule.

Intex also claim an increase of negative ions  in the atmosphere around the pool due to this aeration system.   This may be measurably true, but the increase would be so insignificant as to be unnoticed by the owner we think.

Filter System

Ease of maintenance is one of the most compelling reasons to use a saltwater system for your pool. Theoretically after it is set up correctly it should run on autopilot. Salinity checks need to be done, but adding pool hygiene chemicals whilst not completely eliminated, is greatly reduced.

Family Fun

Anything to do with water in the summer has the kids hooked. They’ll not only cool off while having fun in the slash pools, they might even take their first swim strokes in a larger plunge pool. While a pool is not an entertainment hub, it certainly turns into a focal point for the family on hot summer days, and nights.

Easy Maintenance

Different pool sizes require different maintenance commitments. In general though all the pools reviewed here are really easy to take care of. Most of the larger model actually come with filtration systems, so keeping the pool sparkling is easy. Buying a cover can be a good idea. If you get chance to put it on, the pool is normally busy!!.

In this way, it maintains cleaner water and lessens energy consumption by 50%. Also, it helps in keeping the pool clean; reducing maintenance time and cost for filtration and pumping. Clean your above ground pool or a regular swimming pool effortlessly with a high-quality pool filter pump. It’s especially ideal for cleaning inflatable and frame pools. With simple designs, a pool filter is equipped with an easy to read pressure range for easy access which keeps the maintenance simple.

Solar Collector Orientation

The optimum orientation is north, since north facing roofs receive the most amount of direct sunlight.  Having said  that, even if your collector is oriented up to 45ᵒ east or west of true north, you should not experience a significant  reduction in performance. The next most efficient orientations are either west facing roofs or flat roofs.

Solar Collector Pitch  In an ideal world, solar collectors should be pitched (i.e. tilted) at an angle roughly equal to your geographical  latitude  plus 10-15ᵒ.  This is, however, not essential.  And, of course, if you’re putting them on your roof, you’re  going to be  limited by the existing pitch of the roof.

Roof  Construction

Solar collectors come in a variety of colors. Black is the most efficient. However, if you’ve got a light coloured roof  and want your collector to match or compliment its colour, you may need to increase the m2 of the collectors.

Shading

Obviously, direct shading over the collectors will affect their performance. Additionally, if your pool is shaded, then  the  water temperature will be lower and additional collectors may be needed to counterbalance.

Pools located in windy areas loose heat more rapidly than those in still areas. If your pool is in a naturally windy  location, you may need extra collectors.

Main Component Costs

Although it is usually advisable, and in some states mandatory, to have the installation handled by licensed and/or certified professionals, DIY options are available for anyone with the suitable plumbing or handyman skills.

Solar collectors – the tubes or panels through which the water flows in order to be heated by the sun.

Booster pump – assists in circulating the water from the pool and through the existing filter/circulation pump through the collectors and back to the pool.

Controller – an automatic or manual means of directing the timing of the flow of water through the solar system.  The controller is a wireless monitor that registers the solar temperature of your roof, or collector location’s, solar temperature from up to 200m in order to activate, or for you manually to control, your solar heating system.

Choosing a Solar Pool Heating Installation Company

So, when diving headlong into the hopefully warm waters of solar pool heating, don’t be prey to a nameless dread.  Know what you’re throwing yourself into.  In general, the water’s pretty inviting.
