I like this product. For such a low price, I didn’t even hope it to be any better. It’s decently made. The design quality is top notch and the color is nice. Seems that the material is good. travel iron Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy travel iron, right? No!

Dual Voltage

If you are traveling abroad then it is important to find out if the country uses a different voltage, since electrical appliances in the US work on 100 volts, but this could be higher in other countries. Try to ensure that your travel iron is dual voltage so it can be adjusted from 100 volts to the 240 that is going through power outlets in other countries. If not your compact iron could be fried. The recommended irons we have reviewed in this guide are all dual voltage.

Let’s Wrap It Up!

This model is a typical travel iron in every way, and comes with some neat features that make it ideal for taking on long or short journeys, whether for business or pleasure. It is very compact and weighs in at little more than 450g – not heavy at all – and has a clear water tank so you can see that you are filling the reservoir to the correct levels. At 700watts it is reasonably powerful and will perform a decent job on your shirts and trousers, and it is simple to pack into your bags.

This model comes with a fold-away handle for added convenience, and is neatly designed for easy use. The footplate is designed to be non-stick so you will find it smooth to use. The Kingavon comes with a variable temperature control so is versatile and usable for different materials, and it can be used in dry or steam settings, whichever is correct for the item you are ironing. We recommend you always check the label on your clothes for the best advice. All in all, a decent travel iron, sensibly priced at little more than a tenner.

How it Works

We all know how an iron works, don’t we? For the men among us, here’s the low-down: your other half picks it up, and it miraculously turns creased clothes into pristine, fresh, ready to wear items. In no time at all. In actual fact, a travel iron is a simple device that uses a flat surface, which is heated by an electric heating element, to eradicate the creases by simple back and forth movement. You can get two main types – dry irons, and steam irons, and most models can do both – for different purposes.

You should also be thankful for electricity: in the ‘old days’ you would have used a flat iron, which was made of iron, that you would heat on a fire. That was a genuinely horrible job, and a far cry from the simplicity of turning water into steam, and getting rid of creases with very little effort indeed. Travel irons differ in some ways from regular irons: they tend to be smaller, and they may come with a folding handle for ease of transport and storage. They will be notably lighter than a standard iron, too, so you don’t have to lug a ton weight around in your baggage. So, now you have the picture, let’s talk about the top best travel irons you can buy today.

Important Features to Look For

Compact – this is something you will be carrying around with you in your luggage, suitcase or backpack, so you want it to be small, light and easy to store away. You need one with a folding handle – most of the above have this feature – as this makes it even smaller than you might imagine.

Steam and Dry – dual steam and dry functions are desirable, as it is important to ensure you use the right method on your clothes.

Variable Heat – it is essential that your travel iron has a variable heat control, as ironing at too high a heat can damage fabric, and too low will be ineffective. Always check the label on your clothing before you begin your ironing.

Vertical Steam – if you don’t have access to an ironing board, you may want to consider one of the models that has the vertical steam function. This means you can effectively iron – to a point anyway – a garment when it is hanging up, and not all of these models have this feature.

Water Capacity – you don’t want to be filling up your iron every few minutes, so choose a model with a sensible water capacity if you are likely to have more than just a couple of garments to iron.

There we go, we reckon we’ve covered travel irons pretty well, so let’s bring this to a close.

The higher the wattage, the faster the iron heats up and the more steam it puts out.

We also wanted an iron that works fast. If the goal of most people is to press something quickly and move on with life, you want an iron that heats up in seconds. A good iron only needs heat, steam, and pressure to transform a crumpled heap into a natty button-down. Heat relaxes fibers enough that the iron’s steam and pressure can then push them into submission. Watts are the key to how quickly this happens.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The Maytag may be too light to get creases out of some fabrics. If you’re ironing something big and heavy, or something with stubborn creases (like linen), extra weight is useful for pushing out and smoothing those wrinkles. We still think the Rowenta Steamforce’s combination of heft and powerful steam bursts are worth the investment if you iron a lot or iron anything with precision creases like quilt seams. But for occasional ironing, or even light everyday ironing, we think the Maytag’s agile design more than meets those needs.

We wish the Maytag had a longer cord, which is only eight feet. Sometimes extra length helps you maneuver the iron around an ironing board. And it would give a little more flexibility for setting up your ironing station if you have limited space and limited outlets.

What to look forward to

In fall of 2017, Rowenta will release a new version of their Focus iron, the DW5260. We looked at older versions of this iron (the DW5080 and the DW5183) but skipped both for testing when we heard one or the other might be discontinued this year. We’ll consider trying the new version during our next round of tests.

What we didn’t test

The Rowenta DW519iron has already been out for a few years, and it was a special edition when it was released. We couldn’t confirm its continued availability.

We heard that the Rowenta DW5080 will be discontinued later this year, so we passed on testing it.

The Black+Decker D2030 was one of our runner-up picks in the original guide, but the D3030 has replaced this model and is much, much better.

We tested the Oliso TG1100 in the past but decided to skip the upgraded model. We’ve read complaints that the big selling point—feet that automatically lift the iron off of fabric so it doesn’t burn—often breaks and fails. Plus, it is another really pricey iron.

The Kenmore 8059is now Consumer Reports’s third choice for best iron, but we had trouble actually finding it for sale anywhere at a decent price.

Power of iron.

Iron use electrical power. Degree and speed of heating of iron depends on it power, consequently, the effectiveness of smoothing of clothes depends on it power too.

Irons in power can be roughly divided into low power, middle power and high power irons.

Irons with power up to 1000 Watts can be referred to a low power. This iron can be bought, if you iron not very often or you need to take iron with you on trips or somewhere else (travel iron), because low-power irons are predominantly small in size.

Irons with power from 1000 to 2200 Watts belong to the iron with middle power. This is the main group of irons. Middle power irons represent the major percentage of sales.

High power irons have electrical power over 2200 Watts. They are designed for more frequent and long-term use, also they are much more effectively for iron of any type of clothes. From other side high power irons consume a significant amount of electric power.

For an average family I can recommend the purchase of iron with 1800-2200 watts power.

Parameters of iron water tank.

If the iron has a steam system, it must have a special container for water. Position of this tank should be maximum comfortable for water supply and it volume should be sufficient to ensure ironing without frequent refueling.

I recommend to choose irons with volume of water tank at least 200-250 ml.

Out Of Stock

Meet Steam Bug, the world’s smallest steam iron. Wrinkled clothes are inevitable when you travel, and you can’t rely on your hotel to provide a clean, working iron. Don’t take chances. Our ultra-compact travel iron fits inconspicuously in any suitcase and offers peace of mind when you’re away from home.

This mighty little travel iron is built to keep you moving. The Steam Bug travel iron heats up in just 1seconds to set creases and remove wrinkles fast. These compact steam irons from Brookstone also feature a dual-voltage design, so you don’t have to worry about power adapters when you travel overseas.

Used it on my wedding dress!

HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT TRAVEL CURLING IRON

Weight is a major consideration when traveling, I found out how much each iron weight for you.

I found out the maximum temperature that each curling iron can reach to help you in your purchasing decision.

Is it a thermacell iron cordless iron or a iron that is corded and dual voltage? I found out all the details.

Cordless

The MiniPRO reaches all the way up to 41degrees and it uses ceramic technology which protects hair from heat damage, and gets rid of static and frizz. I love to carry this curling iron in my checked luggage, please note that the TSA and FAA only allow one butane cartridge device in checked or carry on luggage, so you can’t bring a back up refill. You won’t need a refill anyways this iron can last for years before you need to refill the cartridge.

Small compact and lightweight.

A fabric guide is printed on the water tank which shows the correct heat setting for different fabric types.

The water tank is transparent so you can easily know when it needs refilling.  A spray mist button, variable steam setting and pivot cord for ironing at any angle.
